A Little Light Work
One of the things we really didn’t care for in the house design-wise were the hallway lights. All four of the hallway lights were these old globe lights with a bit of a mixture of bulb types in them. The globes looked really dated and the mixture of bulbs meant uneven color temperatures and brightness throughout the house. Some of the bulbs seemed to give off a slight pinkish glow as well.
Old globes probably from the original ’82 construction. Two of these were in each hallway in the house.
Luckily, changing light fixtures can be pretty easy to do. We picked up some Hampton Bay 13″ flush mount LED fixtures from Home Depot. At less than $40 a light they aren’t breaking the bank as one of the first projects in the house. They are very bright with each light rated for 1,370 lumens. Being LED they are rated for 50,000 hours of operation so chances are we’ll get bored of the style before the LEDs fail. We’re going with this oil rubbed bronze finish throughout the house so the trim should match pretty well as we get additional new trim.
Hard at work getting these lights switched out. The shadow following Michael around. Hallway finished! A nice close fit.
All in all, each pair of lights took less than an hour of work. The hallways are much brighter now while using far less electricity. Maybe we’ll eventually upgrade these circuits to smart switches in the future. We’ll be working on upgrading ceiling fans throughout the house first though.
